Charles C. Talbot

Charles C. Talbot

Charles C. Talbott was a powerful organizer of elevator and farm supply cooperatives in North Dakota from the early 1910's until death in 1937.  His efforts resulted in the Farmers Union Terminal Association (later known as the Grain Terminal Association or GTA) and the Farmers Union Central Exchange (Cenex) becoming regular business stops for farmers and ranchers in the Northern Great Plains.  This reputation for building farmer-owned cooperatives led Talbott to become known as "The Great Organizer".

Besides being instrumental in organizing these organizations, Talbott served as the first president of CENEX from January 1931 until his death in April of 1937.  He also served as vice president on the board of the Terminal Association.  Talbott was an early advocated for the Non-Partisan League and also served as a board member for the Farmers Union Livestock Commission and an executive committee member for the National Farmers Union.
